The young Horley Lions Under 7s began their footballing journey together back in April 2025, when the club was first founded. What started as a brand-new grassroots team quickly became the beginning of something very special for a fantastic group of young players starting their footballing careers!
Before the league season even kicked off, the Lions were already showing what they were capable of. In only their second pre-season tournament, the team proudly lifted the Conference Cup, marking the first piece of silverware for the team and the club, giving the players an early taste of success.
With confidence high, the Lions entered their first ever league campaign as both a team and a club. The season began with a tough opening loss, but the young players showed incredible resilience. They quickly bounced back and went on a 7-game unbeaten streak, playing with determination, teamwork and smiles on their faces, while making a name for themselves early on in the season.
As with any football journey, there were challenges along the way. A difficult run of fixtures followed, bringing a series of losses that proved to be a humbling but valuable experience for the team after such a strong start to their careers. However, what truly defines a team is how they respond — and the Lions responded brilliantly.
Finding their feet again and rediscovering their flow, the Lions went on another incredible run, putting together a 6-game winning streak as their confidence and teamwork continued to grow. The young Lions began to show that as a collective, they have gained a further understanding of the game and each other.
The season concluded with the end-of-season cup fixtures, where the young Lions unfortunately went out fighting in the first round. While the cup journey ended earlier than hoped for the young lads, the effort, passion and determination shown by every player made the coaching team immensely proud.
A Season to Be Proud Of!
Looking back, it has been an incredible first season for the very first group of young Lions to come from the club. Every single player should be extremely proud of themselves. Not only have they developed as young footballers, but they have also grown as teammates, friends and individuals on and off the pitch. The young Lions racked up a total of 89 goals across leagues and tournaments combined, with our defensive players achieving 17 clean sheets in the 2025/26 season.
The progress made throughout the season — from those first training sessions in April to the final whistle of the campaign — has been fantastic to see!
A Huge Thank You To Our Parents!
A huge thank you must also go to all of the incredible parents and families. Your non-stop support for your children, the team and the club as a whole has been truly amazing. From cheering on the sidelines to supporting training sessions and matches in all conditions, your encouragement means everything to the players and the coaching team.
We are so grateful to have such a supportive community around the club, and we hope to spend many more years enjoying football together with all of you.
Here’s to many more memories, goals, smiles and roaring Lions in the seasons ahead. #UpTheLions #TheMightyLions
