Parent & Spectator Guidelines
Horley Lions Football Club
Parents and spectators play a vital role in creating a positive, enjoyable environment for young players. At Horley Lions FC, we want every training session and matchday to be a safe, supportive, and encouraging experience for all children involved.
We ask all parents, guardians, and spectators to help support our players, coaches, and referees by following these guidelines.
Supporting the Players
Children play football to learn, have fun, and develop their skills. Positive encouragement from the sidelines can make a huge difference to their confidence and enjoyment.
We encourage parents and spectators to:
-
Cheer and support all players, not just their own child.
-
Praise effort, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
-
Help players enjoy football regardless of the result.
-
Encourage children to play fairly and respect others.
Respect for Coaches & Officials
Coaches and referees play an important role in grassroots football and should always be treated with respect.
Parents and spectators should:
-
Respect decisions made by coaches and referees.
-
Avoid shouting instructions from the sidelines during matches.
-
Allow coaches to manage the team and guide the players.
-
Support the FA Respect principles at all times.
Positive Sideline Behaviour
We want the atmosphere around our matches and training sessions to remain positive and welcoming.
Parents and spectators should:
-
Applaud good play from both teams.
-
Remain positive and encouraging throughout the game.
-
Avoid negative comments, criticism, or shouting at players.
-
Set a good example for young players through respectful behaviour.
Respect for Opponents
Football is about competition but also about respect and sportsmanship.
Please remember to:
-
Treat opposition teams, coaches, and supporters with respect.
-
Avoid confrontations or arguments with other spectators.
-
Help create a friendly and welcoming matchday environment.
Safeguarding & Player Welfare
The safety and wellbeing of children is the club’s highest priority.
Parents and spectators should:
-
Report any safeguarding or welfare concerns to the Club Welfare Officer or a coach.
-
Avoid photographing or filming children without permission.
-
Follow the club’s safeguarding and social media policies.
Working Together as a Club
Horley Lions FC is a community-focused grassroots club, and we rely on the support of our parents and volunteers to provide a positive football environment for young players.
By following these guidelines, we can ensure that every child at Horley Lions FC has the opportunity to enjoy football, develop their skills, and build confidence in a safe and supportive setting.
Thank you for helping make our club a positive place for young players to learn and grow through football.
